K.B. and A.M. and I met just about seven years ago. We joke that our husbands pretty much 'set up our playdates' for us. K.B. and A.M. lived across and down a few houses from one another and I lived down the street. A.M.'s husband met K.B. while taking a walk and set up their "playdate" to get to know one another...their oldest boys were the same ages. And my husband was a friend of K.B.'s friends husband (are ya' following??) and we met when my oldest was two weeks old at a SuperBowl party (my first-ever outing...we all remember those...and she was the first "non-family" member to hold my newborn.) Funny how we remember how we meet our special friends. Now, we've all moved away from the neighborhood, but try to keep in touch via email, phone, and Christmas cards, and make a great effort to get together at least once a year. (though I haven't seen AM in a little over three years...I know, that's sad!!) She lives the furthest away, but comes back to visit her extended family, so we jump on the chance to get together.
This past weekend we planned to meet at The Melting Pot. We don't have one around here, so I hopped in my husband's King Ranch and headed down toward the "big city". (You know you're a country girl when you slip on a little dress and hop in your husband's truck, your chariot of choice!!) What fun we had!!! I was so excited to see them. They looked beautiful! Our meal was fantastic, who doesn't like fondue? And dessert?? To die for!! Can you believe we sat there for 4 hours??!! We talked about how we met, our children, our husbands, our parents, health (and lack thereof at the time), friends, shopping, jobs and whether we'll all return to work, and life. It didn't matter that I haven't seen them in so long. That's the thing about true friends. Like "A" said..."we're not mad at each other if we haven't talked for so long...that's life. It happens. We just pick up where we last left off!" So true. That's what being a real friend means. I drove home feeling so refreshed and so rejuvenated as a wife, mother, and friend. Getting out every once-in-a-while with your friends is so good for the soul. And having great friends is so important...cherish them, as I do. One thing this night out has made me realize...we need more of them!!
Of course I had to bring a little "gift" for my girls from the Cozy Country. And what do we have an over-abundance of here? Peaches! So, peach butter it was!! (Recipe coming soon!!)
