Life of a Coaches Wife

Father in heaven, I come before You today with an open and humble heart. Fill me with Your peace and confidence and help me to stand strong in You. Thank You for Your faithfulness today and always.
It's the middle of basketball season and as usual, this is a tough time. Especially when your husband goes straight from football season right into basketball season. This is my husbands first year coaching in a new school district (our home town high school). It has been a particularly trying one. His is in a rebuilding year (all coaches wives know what that means) and at times has become discouraged. I try to be as supportive as I can, with words of wisdom that seem to come to mind, through daily devotionals that seem to be hand picked for our situation, (or I find in the Bible) at just the right times, reminding him that we knew the challenge that was at his feet. He was so successful at his former high school, State Champions in football and State Finalists in basketball, but he didn't win right away. He quickly forgot all the years it took to build and rebuild his teams to get there. This is just one of those years. Every coach has them! We as coaches wives live each victory and loss as if it is our own...showing how proud and confident we are when we're winning, and experiencing the stinging pain of the loss.
Well, as I write this I just got a phone call from my husband saying that they won! This was a big game for them, and VICTORY!! (My gratitude, Oh Lord!!) So, you may not see how it´s going to work out, but you´ve got to remember you are a child of The Most High God. You are equipped to overcome. When times get tough and you don’t see a way out, don´t allow yourself to get discouraged.
I emailed this prayer to my husband before they left for their game...I know He has given him the strength he needs...
Father in heaven, thank You for Your promise of victory. Fill my heart with Your peace and joy today and help me to stay focused on You.
And, as a devoted coaches wife (and daughter) I am thankful to have found this prayer, and wish to share it with any other coaches wife out there...
So, today, my Gratituesday is gratefulness for the tools to help my husband stay focused on knowing God has a plan for him and He will lead him to victory. (It actually helped both of us, really!!)
So, stay in faith..."Is there anything too hard for the Lord"? Genesis 18:14

  1. Goodness, we could be writing the same posts, lol! We had a great 8-2 football season, but basketball (girls!) has been a different story... three years in a row now. It IS getting better each year, but still...

    Hang in there!

  2. I wish I had a friend like you nearby "in real life"...someone who can relate to what we're going through!!
Hang in there...as long as they're (the team) showing progress, that's all that matters!
Good luck for the rest of the season!

  3. When we are in a situation it seems like it goes on forever. But at the end we see how great God was through it all! Congrats to your Husband's basketball team.
